Living CostNew Zealand had a relatively low cost of living, in comparison to other countries around the world. Also the part time work available to the international students makes it convenient for the students to earn there living cost. If you are studying full time in New Zealand on a Student Visa, you are permitted to work 20 hours in a week and full time during weekends and during Christmas and 52 weeks in the year (12 months X 4 weeks). Out of these, for 46 weeks you can work 20 hours per week and 40 hours for the rest of the 6 weeks. These 6 weeks are normally the Christmas and New Year vacation.
Minimum wage in New Zealand right now is $12 per hour. As there are 52 weeks in a year so:
46 weeks X 20 hours X $12= $11040
06 weeks X 40 hours X $12 = $2880
Total earning in the year = $13920 (minimum)
Total earning per month = $13920/12$1160 per months that is $1160x31 = Rs.36000 approximately
Typical ExpenditureRent $350 (On sharing basis)
Food $50 (Provisions are very cheap)
Travel $50 (You can get student discount on travel)
Phone $50 (Use SMS more than voice to save more)
Misc $100 (Girlfriend/boyfriend, etc.)
Tax $200 (Mandatory)
Total expense per month = $800 = Rs.24,800 approximately
So you can earn enough to live quite comfortably while studying.
The balance NZ$ 360 (Rs.11200) can perhaps be used to pay the interest if you have taken a student loan in India.
